Dr. A. Suresh Kumar has built a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in engineering education, research, and academic leadership. A renowned academician in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), he has consistently contributed to developing future engineers through quality teaching, innovative research, and academic mentorship. Currently serving as a Professor at M.I.E.T. Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli, he continues to inspire students and faculty while strengthening engineering education through his commitment to excellence.
Before joining M.I.E.T. Engineering College, Dr. Kumar held several key leadership positions at Pavendar Bharathidasan College of Engineering and Technology, Tiruchirappalli, where he served as Professor and Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. He also successfully discharged responsibilities as Vice Principal and Principal-in-Charge on multiple occasions, demonstrating exceptional administrative capabilities alongside his academic expertise.
His academic journey reflects a strong foundation in engineering and research. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Mookambigai College of Engineering, affiliated with Bharathidasan University, followed by a Master of Engineering in Communication Systems from the Regional Engineering College (now the National Institute of Technology), Tiruchirappalli. He later completed his Ph.D. in Optical Sensors under the Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering at Anna University, Chennai, establishing himself as a specialist in advanced communication technologies and sensor research.
Throughout his career, he has combined extensive academic experience with valuable industrial exposure, enabling him to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications. His research interests span diverse domains, including optical sensors, optical communication, wireless communication, antenna design, digital signal processing, satellite communication, nanoelectronics, television engineering, and information technology applications in agriculture. His multidisciplinary expertise has enabled him to contribute significantly to both teaching and applied research.
Dr. Kumar has made notable contributions to engineering literature through the publication of 14 technical textbooks, several of them authored in Tamil to make complex engineering concepts more accessible to regional-language students. His commitment to knowledge dissemination has been widely appreciated, including receiving an appreciation letter from former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for his contribution to Tamil technical engineering books.
His research portfolio includes numerous international journal publications, conference papers, patents, and book chapters covering emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, wireless sensor networks, cloud computing, aerospace systems, machine learning, and biomedical engineering. His recent research has focused on AI-driven communication systems, wearable antennas, optical sensors, and intelligent engineering applications, reflecting his ability to adapt to rapidly evolving technological advancements.
Beyond research, he has played an instrumental role in mentoring future engineers. Over the years, he has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate projects, guided students during industrial visits and internships, and served as a resource person for faculty development programmes organized by universities and engineering institutions. His dedication to student development has consistently produced excellent academic results and industry-ready graduates.
His academic excellence has earned him several prestigious recognitions, including the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Academia Excellence Award (2025–2026), Certificates of Merit for outstanding research publications and book chapters, and multiple institutional awards recognizing exceptional teaching performance and research contributions. He is also a Life Member and Fellow of several leading professional organizations, including IEEE, IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, IETE, ISTE, and the Institution of Engineers (India).
